Fall is here at last, so get ready for festivals, antiques, jazz and more without venturing far from home.

1. Village Garden Walk Block Party

Oct. 6 | 5-7 p.m.
Mountain Brook Village

It’s time for Antiques in the Gardens at Birmingham Botanical Gardens, and Mountain Brook Village wants to celebrate with garden-inspired windows. You’ll find music, food and shopping too at the Friday night party.

2. Western Supermarkets Wine & Food Festival

Oct. 6 | 6-9 p.m.
The Birmingham Zoo

 Interested in tasting from several hundred wines and local food too? Head to the zoo for this annual festival, and a portion of proceeds will benefit the Emmet O’Neal Library. Tickets are available at the library, Western locations, and here.

3. Varsity Spartan Football

Don your green and gold, and we’ll see you at Spartan Stadium. All games start at 7 p.m.

4. Antiques at the Gardens

Oct. 6-8

Birmingham Botanical Gardens

Antique dealers from across the country set up their wares at the gardens for quite the fair of antiques, furniture, porcelain, fine art, silver, garden accessories and jewelry. Architects, interior designers and landscape designers will also display curate themed areas with goods selected from the best of Birmingham and other sources. Admission is $15 a person.

5. Jazz in the Park

Oct. 15 | 5-8 p.m.
Across from Emmet O’Neal Library

Grab your picnic blanket, and meet us on the grassy knoll in front of the library for an evening of picnics and a free jazz concert.

6. Shop Save & Share

Oct. 18-29
Shops Throughout Mountain Brook and Birmingham

We’re all about an excuse to shop for a good cause, and you can’t beat the Junior League of Birmingham’s Shop Save & Share fundraiser. A digital or printed Shop Save & Share card costs $40, and then you receive a 20 percent at more than 500 participating businesses—including 57 in Vestavia Hills alone. Time to get ahead on holiday shopping, y’all!

Plus, funds raised go to 36 community projects. The fundraiser has put more than $550,000 back into the community over the past 11 years. Shoppers can purchase and download a Shop Save & Share card at ShopSaveandShare.net, by texting “SSS” to 205-660-0030 or on the Planet Fundraiser app.

7. MBHS Homecoming Parade

Oct. 20 | 2 p.m.
Crestline Village

Join the MBHS football players and cheerleaders, Dorians and students, and, well, most of Mountain Brook in Crestline to build excitement for the homecoming game against the Oak Mountain Eagles.

8. Fall Plant Sale

Oct. 21-22
Saturday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Sunday noon – 4 p.m.
Birmingham Botanical Gardens

Find everything you need for your yard heading into colder weather with herbs, sustainable trees, fall annuals, shrubs, natives, perennials and more for sale. Plus, all the trees are natives selected especially for Birmingham’s climate and condition.

9. A Night Dark & Grimm Fairy Tale Festival & Movie on the Lawn

Oct. 27 | 6 p.m.
Emmet O’Neal Library/ Children

Fairytales and kids books come to life at this annual event, complete with Beauty and the Beast on the lawn.

10. Mystics of Mountain Brook Parade

Oct. 31 | 4 p.m.
Crestline Village

It’s not Halloween unless you have been there for this Mardi Gras-style parade through Crestline Village. Put on your costume, and we’ll see you there.
