How We Met: Phillip and I (Elizabeth) were introduced by a mutual family friend so that we could communicate about an online history class were both in, although very few of our conversations were about the coursework. Phillip eventually asked me on a date.

The Proposal: We had just arrived back at my parents’ house after celebrating New Year’s Eve at The Club. As Phillip was walking me to the door, he dropped to one knee and asked me to be his wife—in the very spot where we first met. We immediately told my parents and sister, and spent the next day visiting family and friends to share our news.

Favorite Moment: The tarantella is a traditional Italian dance customarily done at weddings. We both come from Italian families and have participated in the dance many times, yet the moment we stepped into the center of the dance circle it really hit us. We were married! We both felt encircled by so much love and support. Having a groomsman and lifelong friend sing the song onstage with the band made the tradition even more special.

Favorite Details: My maternal and paternal grandfather’s wedding bands were tied into my bouquet. Each ring symbolizes close to 70 years of marriage, a milestone we hope to one day achieve ourselves. Another special detail was the wooden cross we made for the entry table at the church. Our handiwork is now displayed in our home and serves as a daily reminder of what we can accomplish when we work together.
