1. Spartan Day Breakfast

Monday, Aug. 6 | 7:45 a.m.
Mountain Brook Baptist Church

Calling all rising seventh graders! You are invited to breakfast before Spartan Day (orientation) at MBJH. The event will feature food and a devotional thought, and then everyone can walk to the junior high. To register visit mbbc.org/spartanday or email amy@mbbc.org.

2. Shades Valley Presbyterian Church Farmer’s Market

Wednesdays | 3-6 p.m.
2305 Montevallo Road

Stop by after work to stock up on fresh veggies at this market conveniently located right outside Mountain Brook Village on Montevallo Road. It runs weekly through Aug. 15.

3. Mountain Brook Presbyterian Farmers Market

Saturdays | 8 a.m.-noon
3405 Brookwood Road

Find produce, fruits, eggs, meats and honey without venturing far from home on Saturday mornings, plus shop the works of artisans and other vendors. It will run through Aug. 25.

4. Birmingham Restaurant Week

Aug. 10-19
Various Restaurants

Try a new restaurant or an old favorite with these lunch or dinner prix-fixe menus ranging from $10, $15, $20, $30 or $40 per person—including Continental Bakery, Habitat Feed & Social at the Grand Bohemian Hotel, Root to Tail and Vino. 6. Boiling ‘n Bragging

Saturday, Aug. 18 | 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Otey’s Tavern

You don’t have to wait for Labor Day to tailgate. Wear your team’s colors and come out for a low country boil plus live music, $1 drink specials and kids’ activities The Rotary International District 6860 partners with Children’s of Alabama, Otey’s Tavern, Spectrum Business and Waste Management for the event, and entertainment will be provided by Lance Taylor and Rockstar from WJOX’s Roundtable. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. Kids ages 10 and younger get in free. Find tickets here.

7. Family Yoga in the Gardens

Saturday, Aug. 18 | 9-10 a.m.
Birmingham Botanical Gardens

Participate in individual and partner yoga poses for strength and balance in our favorite garden setting, plus breathing exercises to help foster calm and focus. The coast is $15 for one child and adult, plus $5 for an additional family member. Register and pay online here. 

8. Saturday Matinee of “Neptune’s Daughter (1949)”

Saturday, Aug. 18 | 2:30 p.m.
Emmet O’Neal Library

This musical romantic comedy film released by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer starring Esther Williams and Red Skelton, and features the Academy Award winning song “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” by Frank Loesser. This event is also the Adult Summer Reading Finale and will feature a grand prize giveaway. Plus find more library events here.

9. MBHS Football Games

Aug. 24+30 | 7 p.m.

It’s time for Friday night lights. Don your green and gold, and come out to see the Spartans take on Northridge away on Aug. 24 and Center Point at home on Aug. 30.
